Oral drives are the most primitive one, we should eat ; the feeling of famine is hard transferred, the hungry person is weak, easy wounded, sensitive and we depend on feeling of famine.
Anal drives are one of "higher" order. If we want to satisfy them, for the beginning it would be necessary to eat, have a drink. The pleasure from their satisfaction can be very strong, we shall recollect a joke about Indians where Russian has shown their leader new “high” – pushing him to drink beer and not allowing to go to a toilet , ater has resolved - the leader has recognized with what incomparable pleasure. At these drives we have one problem - they, also as well as oral, - should be satisfied. But they, as we saw earlier, can be postponed for some time. It creates a certain primary sensation of freedom at the child and generates a diverse palette of neuroses - so-called "anal fixings".
And at last, genital drives, the unique kind of an instinct not necessary to immediate satisfaction, and through the mechanism of sublimation, it could be not satisfied in direct value and at all.
“Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband… But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment. For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.”( 1 Corinthians)
Thus, only at a genital drive’s level, development of freedom is possible. Only mature enough person can allow "to be engaged" or "to not be engaged" to itself in sex. For this reason all totalitarian modes and systems struggle always with sexuality.
